Davinia Rodríguez returns to Spoleto to sing Mozart

-The Canary Island soprano will make her debut in the role of Elvira in Don Giovanni at the 60th Festival di Spoleto in Italy.

The Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto, which was founded by the legendary composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1957, will include performances of a Mozart opera and the Spanish soprano Davinia Rodríguez, just like last year. On the 30th June the festival will raise the curtain on the Mozart opera Don Giovanni with the Canary Islander in the role of Donna Elvira, which Rodríguez will be singing for the first time. “In February I sang Donna Anna at the ABAO-OLBE season in Bilbao and in Spoleto I will perform in the same opera, but this time in the role of her rival and then ally against the libertine Don Juan,” the soprano explains. “Singing Donna Elvira, in a production directed by the director of Spoleto himself, Giorgio Ferrara, is a fantastic occasion for me to get deeply immersed in the Don Juan myth in all its magnitude. It so much belongs to us, it is so Spanish. Elvira is so in love with Don Juan that she follows him from one city to another, until she finds him in Seville. There, being rejected once again, she teams up with Anna and Ottavio to have revenge on the man she loves, although I believe that if Don Juan said to her ‘come with me, I prefer you’ I am sure that Elvira would give up everything and go with him to the end of the world.”
This new production of Don Giovanni, which will conclude the revisiting of the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy at Spoleto which began three years ago, will be conducted by James Conlon. Performances will take place on the 30th June and the 2nd July.
This summer Davinia Rodríguez will also be performing at the Macerata Festival (Italy) as Liù in Puccini´s Turandot and she will begin the next season in October with a return to the Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra.
